GoToMyPC has always offered robust security with passwords and access codes. To make sure we continue that tradition of security-first thinking, we’re introducing a new, added layer of security for your GoToMyPC account: two-step verification.

Two-step verification, sometimes referred to as two-factor authentication, is one of the easiest, and most effective, ways to make sure your accounts are secure. You may not realize just how easy it is for someone to steal your password. But with two-step verification, you can help keep bad guys out — even if they already have your password — with a second step at log in that makes sure you’re really you.

What exactly is two-step verification?
In a nutshell, it’s a simple feature that asks for more than just a password to log in to your GoToMyPC account. It requires a second step using something you have on you, such as your phone, to verify your identity. How? After you enter your password, GoToMyPC will send a code to your phone, which you must enter to be able to access your account. So even if a thief has your password, your account is still safe.

Enabling two-step verification on your account
GoToMyPC’s two-step verification feature is built on a system that uses SMS, so you must be able to receive text messages on your phone to enable this feature.

To set up two-step verification for your GoToMyPC account:

1. Log in to GoToMyPC and navigate to My Account.

2. Under Settings, click 2-Step Verification and enter your phone number.

3. To verify your account, GoToMyPC will now send a six-digit code to the phone number you provided.

4. Enter the code you receive in your account to complete the verification process.

And for added security without any extra hassles, you can disable two-step verification on any trusted computer that you frequently use to connect to your host, while still having the verification process in place for any other computer.
